Nutrien Ag Solutions' Biola Branch Recognized for Local Partnership
The team at Actagro/Nutrien Ag Solutions branch in Biola, CA, recently received the Fresno Compact Award for partnership with a local elementary school.
The employees at the Biola, California, Actagro/Nutrien Ag Solutions branch were recently honored with the Fresno Compact award for the ongoing work they’ve done with Biola-Pershing Elementary School in Biola. The Fresno Compact Award recognizes local businesses that have “built exceptional partnerships with schools, contributing time and resources to help students reach their full potential.”
The Actagro/Nutrien Ag Solutions team in Biola first reached out to the principal of the elementary school to brainstorm ways to help reconnect staff and students following the pandemic. The branch donated t-shirts for every staff member and student at the school and facilitated a panoramic photo of everyone in their shirts.
Following that, the Biola team wanted to stay engaged with the elementary school and continued to work with the principal to find ways to contribute. The next project was a shoe donation drive that was actually completely funded and managed by the employees at
Actagro/Nutrien Ag Solutions. Employees collectively donated over 70 shoes to students who needed them. End of year t-shirts were also purchased for the graduating sixth graders, with all their names on it.
“It can be very difficult to get certain resources in smaller communities,” says Josh Burrow, Director of Actagro Business for Nutrien Ag Solutions. “Sometimes children are forgotten or overlooked, so it’s been a big focus for our team to help in any way we can because these children are our future.”
The Fresno Compact Award honors ten companies each year who go above and beyond to help local schools. The next project the Actagro/Nutrien Ag Solutions team is spearheading are greenhouse and facility tours for the sixth-grade science students.
“Children need a place where they feel like they belong. Having that sense of community from a young age helps them know they can be a productive member of society,” says Josh. “As these students start getting older and looking for internships or jobs, we want them to remember that Nutrien is just a block or two away and can provide a supportive environment for them to continue to learn and grow.”
